Guajataca Signs: A Boy Scout's Dream Realized
Guajataca has always held a special place in my heart. As a Boy Scout, I spent countless days exploring its campgrounds, bonding with my troop, and immersing myself in the adventure that the great outdoors provided. One memory that always stood out was the idea of designing signs for the camp—something I always wanted to do but never had the chance to. Now, with Adobe Illustrator on an iPad Pro, I finally brought that vision to life.
Bringing the Signs to Life
One of the signs I designed is the bow and arrow sign, representing one of the many exciting activities available at Guajataca. Archery was a thrilling challenge, requiring patience, precision, and skill—qualities that Scouting instilled in me from a young age. The bold colors and clean lines of the sign make it easy to recognize while capturing the spirit of adventure and marksmanship that the activity embodies.
Another design close to my heart is the Camp Site B sign. This was my favorite campsite during my time at Guajataca, a place filled with memories of campfires, late-night stories, and camaraderie. It was the perfect setting to build lifelong friendships and learn the values of teamwork and perseverance. Designing this sign allowed me to give back to the place that had given me so much.I also created a sign for the swimming pool—a tribute to the Aquatic Team, my team. Swimming and water activities were a huge part of my Scouting experience, and being on the Aquatic Team was a defining moment for me. This sign represents the dedication, fun, and teamwork that came with learning lifesaving skills and enjoying the water.
Final Thoughts: A Full-Circle Moment
Bringing these signs to life wasn’t just a creative project—it was a way to honor my past and contribute to a place that shaped who I am today. Using Illustrator on an iPad Pro, I was able to transform childhood dreams into tangible designs that capture the essence of Guajataca.
For anyone who has ever wanted to leave their mark on a place that meant the world to them—know that it’s never too late. Creativity has the power to bridge past and present, and I hope these signs inspire future campers to create their own unforgettable memories at Guajataca.
